Why I’m Not Buying Gold

I’m sick to death of hearing all those “Buy Gold” commercials on my right-wing-nutcase talk radio shows.  Seriously?   Gold?

In what scenario can you imagine busting out a gold piece to get you through an emergency?  In an economic collapse, gold isn’t worth a damn bit more than paper – what are you going to do, buy a Slurpee at the 7-E with a gold coin?  Honestly.

Besides, as the Sarge points out, a $1000 gold coin is the size of a freaking dime – what do you plan to to, slice off a shaving to buy a bottle of distilled water?  Or maybe you plan to buy the whole fucking pallet at Sam’s Club. Didn’t think that through, did ya?

In a total meltdown, these are the things that have value and can be traded:

  • Food
  • Dry Clothing
  • Water
  • Ammunition
  • Booze (probably)

To hell with gold, I’m stockpiling the good stuff – the stuff that will actually HELP MY FAMILY SURVIVE WHEN THE SHIT HITS THE FAN.

What do you think about buying gold?

**I am not a trained financial advisor. I’m just a dumb blonde who likes to share her opinion with anyone who will listen. Before making any stupid financial decisions, you should seek the advice of a professional financial planner, or start burying your money in the cellar. Whatever you do, don’t take my word for it.

  1. Rachel says:

You make some good points. However, I don’t see anything wrong with a little gold. My grandfather, who escaped and helped others escape out of Poland from the Nazis, respected and valued gold.

He told me something I will never forget: Silver is for trading but gold is for life.

Therefore, I have a little of each myself.
